Newsletter Q4 2024

Here it is!
In front of you is EuroSpec's Q4 2024 Newsletter. It is true that you have not had an update for a while. The EuroSpec was working hard  formulating usable specifications. We want to communicate only when there is news. The biggest problem these days is information overflow. We don't want to contribute to that, which is why you will only hear from us when there is really something new to report. And we certainly have that now. No new set of specifications yet, expect these before the end of 2024. This newsletter focuses on - a new download procedure, changes in the steering committee, announcement of the statement, a new EuroSpec product and, finally, an up-to-date schedule for project brief and (new) or renewed EuroSpecs.
Download procedure changed
It is a must for us to make our specifications available free of charge for everyone. In order to improve our support for the users and to get a better understanding of the needs, we have introduced a new procedure for downloading. You don’t need a password anymore.  You will once register yourself. And in order to receive the download of the documents you need to be logged in. This was introduced last August. Because of the summer holiday period we didn’t communicate sufficiently about this changed procedure. For help just send an email to info@eurospec.eu
EuroSpec organisation – Composition Steering Group
EuroSpec has a flat-organisation structure. Central steering and coordinating role is at the level of the Steering Group. Since October 2023 Anton van Himbergen (NS) has taken over the chair role from Ralf Marxen (DB). Jens Bauch (DB), Martin Vorhofer (ÖBB) and Joel Rippert (SBB) have joined the Steering group  in the last year. Below is a brief introduction of them:
Jens Bauch – representative DB in EuroSpec Steering Group
Jens Bauch is responsible for coordinating the European and International Standardisation activities and participation for DB. In his role, he is involved as delegate in CEN/TC 256 and ISO/TC 269 as well as Head of German Delegation in CLC/TC 9X and IEC/TC 9, including all related SCs. He is Chair of DKE/K 351 (mirror committee to CLC/TC 9X and IEC/TC 9). Jens is also responsible for collecting the STIP contributions for all ERJU Innovation Pillar Flagship Projects and the DAC in the ERJU System Pillar Task4. Other activities include EuroSpec, Coordination Group Railways (COG Rail, former Sector Forum Rail, SFR) as CER representative, and steering committees in regard to harmonisation strategy and organisation.
Martin Vorhofer – deputy representative ÖBB in EuroSpec Steering Group
Mechanical engineer at Austrian Federal Railways, responsible for running behaviour and mechanical parts (especially of springs and suspensions) of the rolling stock fleet of ÖBB. Also involved in quite a few passenger train procurement projects being responsible for the mechanical specifications and leading the negotiations of the mechanical parts.
Joel Rippert – deputy representative SBB in EuroSpec Steering Group
Joel Rippert is responsible for market research within the procurement office in the passenger division of SBB. Besides EuroSpec, he’s involved in the RTR-Initiative.
Anton van Himbergen (NS) – Chair of EuroSpec Steering Group
Anton van Himbergen is responsible for the coordinating the European and International Regulation and Standardisation activities and participation for NS (including CEN, CENELEC, IEC, ISO, EuroSpec and UIC) in the technical domain.
    NEW deliverable – STATEMENT
Before we create a working group on a new topic, we first explore whether the topic offers enough content to create a separate EuroSpec specification for it. This exploration consists of several expert meetings where good and bad experiences from operation or maintenance will be shared. We want to retain the result of this and make it available even if it is insufficient for a Specification document. The results will be summarised in a one- or two-pager. A Statement on Luggage is currently being worked on. A direct link has already been made on the homepage of the Website.
      Vision & Mission
The landscape is continuously changing: new regulations, new standards, new technologies or new procedures. The EuroSpec Steering Group supported by the advisory group has updated their vision and mission. During the coming period these will be used to align the entire EuroSpec organisation. We expect to share more about the updated vision and mission in the following newsletter.
      EuroSpec – global presence
The goal of EuroSpec is to share the collected knowledge for free. For the entire world, for every type of user. Because we are convinced that in this way, we are providing maximum contribution to the rail sector.
