The route for user-oriented harmonisation of rolling stock
Newsletter March 2026
In this first newsletter of 2026 we are pleased to inform you of the first draft version ofCCS On board, updated project briefson CCS On board and Circularity, and publication of V2 of Parking Noise.
We advise you of the publication of a second EuroSpec statement on Welding and the creation of a public EuroSpec LinkedIn page. In addition, we believe it is important that the EuroSpec specifications are aligned with the current field of global and European regulations and standards. That is why we are working on new (sub)versions of the EuroSpecs. For example, we have started updating the EuroSpec Circularity. Please forward this newsletter widely within your organization and network. Better is to subscribe to this newsletter via this LINK. This will help the rail sector become even more competitive.
New harmonized Specifications
In the last period, our EuroSpec teams delivered two new or updated sets of harmonised specifications (login to download these specifications in pdf or xlsx-format):
This first version of ‘CCS On-board’ contains the requirements for new train procurement. The two modules of requirements are included: ETCS On-Board and Railway Mobile Radio (RMR), covering GSM-R and FRMCS. This is already being published as a draft to receive feedback from the market. This new EuroSpec is available as a PDF-file, xlsm-file, and, upon request, as a ReqIF-file. This ReqIF file makes it easy to use in Requirement Management Tools.
This version is aligned with the recently published EN ISO 3095 and some minor changes, based on received feedback, have been added.
The draft version of the xlsx-files has been shared with manufacturers and suppliers in an earlier stage. We are open to discuss, exchange and receive input on all of these documents. If so, please use contact@eurospec.eu.
New EuroSpec Statement
After the publication of the statement on luggage early 2025 we can inform you about the publication of a statement on Welding. Log in and use this link:
This is the second statement published by EuroSpec. There have been several incidents over the years where poor design and badly defined welding processes have led to cracks in railway vehicles. In addition to all available regulations and standards, EuroSpec has included some experiences and recommendations on body shell design and welding in the statement.
Feel free to share your thoughts with us or even add other valuable experiences related to this topic.
The first version EuroSpec on circularity was published early 2023. The need arose to revise this EuroSpec with a view to reflecting current insights and practices and addressing issues that could not be fully covered in the first version. This constitutes the core of the project. Moreover, updating the “EuroSpec Specification on Circularity for Rolling Stock” would facilitate its alignment with existing and emerging EU and international legislation that introduces material passport–related requirements, notably the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation
(PPWR), as well as the forthcoming UIC IRS 30345 document “Environmental specifications for new rolling stock”.

At the end of December 2025 the private LInkedin-area was stopped and replaced by a public area. Click here to join the new group: https://lnkd.in/eBaKnScy. Do this to stay informed or to share your thoughts, responses or new insights.
